The challenge of ownership

Managing a yacht in Indonesia is complex. We make it simple.

Indonesia's 17,000 islands offer some of the world's most spectacular sailing — but managing a vessel here requires navigating Indonesian maritime regulations, finding reliable local suppliers, managing crew across remote locations, and staying on top of maintenance in tropical conditions.

Most yacht owners are based abroad. They want to know their asset is protected, their crew is looked after, and that when they arrive, everything is exactly as it should be. That is precisely what we deliver.

Upwind Solutions was founded to bridge the gap between international yacht ownership standards and the realities of operating in the Indonesian archipelago. We bring Dutch precision and Indonesian local knowledge together under one roof.

Why Upwind

What sets us apart in the archipelago.

There are management companies. And then there are management companies who have spent 15 years building relationships with every port authority, supplier, and technician from Bali to the Banda Sea. We are the latter.

Deep Local Knowledge

We know Indonesian waters intimately — currents, regulations, seasonal timing, restricted areas, and the best anchorages. We navigate complexity so you don't have to.

Full Transparency

Monthly detailed reports, every invoice shared, no surprises. You approve any expenditure above agreed thresholds. You stay in control — wherever you are in the world.

Preventive, Not Reactive

We schedule and execute maintenance before issues arise — especially critical in tropical conditions. A breakdown in Raja Ampat costs ten times more than prevention.

A Dedicated Team, Not a Call Centre

You deal directly with the people who manage your yacht. No account managers, no ticketing systems. When you call, someone who knows your vessel answers.

The Indonesian Archipelago

From Bali to the Banda Sea — we know every anchorage.

Indonesia is one of the world's great sailing destinations — 17,508 islands, UNESCO World Heritage marine parks, and waters teeming with biodiversity. It is also one of the most complex countries in which to operate a yacht.

Our team has spent years building relationships with port authorities, local suppliers, and government agencies across the archipelago. We know which areas require special permits, when the currents favour which routes, and how to get spare parts to a vessel anchored off Komodo.

  • Long-term relationships — our average client has been with us for 6+ years

Not at all. Most of our clients are based in Europe, Australia, or elsewhere in Southeast Asia and manage everything remotely. You receive detailed monthly reports, real-time updates on maintenance and operations, and you have a dedicated contact reachable around the clock. We are your eyes and hands on the water — you simply need to show up when you want to sail.
We manage superyachts, traditional Indonesian phinisi, sailing yachts, and motor vessels — typically from 15 metres and above. Whether your vessel is flagged for private use or generating charter income, we adapt our services to your situation. We also consult on vessels before purchase, so if you're still in the selection process we can help from day one.
Over 15 years, we have built a network of certified technicians and trusted suppliers across the entire archipelago — including in remote locations like Raja Ampat, Komodo, and the Banda Sea. Preventive maintenance schedules significantly reduce the risk of breakdowns in isolated areas. When emergencies do arise, we mobilise quickly using established local contacts and, if necessary, airfreight parts from Bali or Jakarta.
Completely transparent. You receive a detailed monthly statement covering all income, operating expenses, maintenance costs, and upcoming planned expenditure. Every invoice is shared with you, and any expenditure above the agreed monthly threshold requires your explicit approval before we proceed. You will never receive a surprise bill.
Yes. We can actively manage your vessel as a charter asset — handling bookings, charter agreements, guest provisioning, crew briefings, and post-charter inspections — while ensuring it remains available and in perfect condition for your personal use whenever you want it. We also advise on optimising charter rates and managing the legal structure for charter operations in Indonesia.
We operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Our team and supplier network are spread across Indonesia, so response times are measured in hours, not days. For urgent situations, we have a clear escalation protocol that gets the right people moving immediately — whether that's a local technician, a salvage contact, or the nearest port authority.
We are a small, senior team — you always deal directly with the people who actually manage your yacht, not with account managers or call centre staff. Our Dutch-Indonesian heritage gives us a unique ability to operate at international professional standards while navigating Indonesian regulations, local supplier relationships, and island-to-island logistics with genuine ease. And frankly, we care. Our average client relationship lasts over six years — that tells you something.
